Facial balance

Small asymmetries are normal and often best left alone. When treatment helps, it works on proportion.

The same face shot front-on and in profile side by side against grey.

What is actually happening

Every face is asymmetric. Photographs exaggerate it, front-facing cameras exaggerate it further, and looking at your own face closely for long enough will find something on any face at all.

When balancing is worth doing, it works on the relationship between features rather than on any single one. A chin that reads as weak is often a projection issue rather than a size issue, and the correct treatment is not always where the patient is pointing.

What we assess

Proportion in thirds, projection in profile, and how the face moves. Static assessment alone misses most of it.

What we usually advise

Frequently, nothing. A consultation that ends in reassurance is a good outcome and we will not talk you into more.

When we say no

When the concern is not proportionate to what is visible, or when what is being described does not match what is in the photographs.
